Il fumetto è stato testimone non muto della Grande Storia del secolo, rimanendo influenzato dalle due Guerre Mondiali e dalla Guerra Fredda; dallo scontro ideologico-economico dei due blocchi geopolitici contrapposti; dal nascere e dal tramontare del Fascismo, del Nazionalsocialismo, del Comunismo; dal terrorismo e dal conformismo politicamente orientato e politicamente corretto. Non sono stati decenni facili, per il fumetto, quelli del Novecento. Sballottato nelle tempeste d'acciaio è riuscito sempre a rinascere dalle proprie ceneri. Il presente volume raccoglie – rivisti, corretti e integrati, talvolta pesantemente – alcuni articoli fumettistici da me licenziati nel corso di oltre venti anni (dal 1999 al 2020). Questi interventi, ordinati e organizzati per temi principali, hanno in comune il tentativo di capire come reagì il mondo del fumetto di fronte alle maggiori tensioni del XX secolo, analizzando alcune grandi storie, alcune grandi pubblicazioni e il lavoro di alcuni grandi protagonisti.
